No Blogging Inspiration? – (In which I ramble and beg for help (please help me) a lot)

No blogging inspiration?

A Lack of Blogging Inspiration?

Hi! *waves*

I haven’t posted for, er, too long. Wayyyy too long. And the reason for that (and the reason I haven’t posted much, like, all year) is that I’ve had no inspiration whatsoever.

I feel like I should clarify that I don’t mean I have no motivation. It’s not that I don’t want to blog.

No, the problem I’m having is that I do want to blog. I plan to post every couple days, and write posts ahead of time. And I try to stick to that plan. But when I sit down to write a post, all motivated and excited to write one (which I’ve done SO many times since last time I posted), I end up sitting there, staring at a blank screen for ages, trying to figure out what I want to post about.

Largely it’s because I don’t want to just be posting reviews, tags, and Top Ten Tuesdays.

Because let’s face it, they get boring. Nobody wants to read a long chain of tags, and reviews, and nothing else. I don’t want to be writing just reviews and tags either. It’s not that I don’t enjoy writing them (I actually really love doing tags*), but I don’t want them to be ALL I’m posting.

I want to be writing discussion posts! I want to be posting… other stuff! But I can’t think of any good discussion post topics that haven’t already been done. And I can’t even seem to come up with what “other stuff” entails.

So I procrastinate and don’t post at all. Yay me.

And all I know is I DON’T want to look back at my recent posts and see huge gaps of time between them. But I also don’t want to look back and see this:

  • Tag
  • Wrap-up
  • TTT (Top Ten Tuesday)
  • Review
  • Blogiversary Q&A (look, ONE WHOLE POST THAT ISN’T A TAG/REVIEW/TTT/WRAP-UP!!)
  • Tag
  • Wrap-up
  • TTT
  • Tag
  • Wrap-up
  • TTT
  • Review
  • Tag
  • Wrap-up
  • TTT
  • Review
  • TTT
  • Wrap-Up

This is what I’ve posted March through July. And I’m really not thrilled about it.

*So, you know, if you want to tag me for something, please do, I appreciate it!

I have a few ideas now (apparently writing about how I have no ideas helps me to come up with ideas…), and I have plenty of motivation (that never left I the first place), so you can (hopefully) expect to see some posts semi-consitantly for the next while, that aren’t ONLY tags and reviews and TTTs.

Although my two ideas probably aren’t going to last me very long… But with some tags and reviews thrown in there it’ll last me into August at least…

And maybe, hopefully, possibly I will come up with some more ideas by then? *fingers crossed*

Do you have a hard time coming up with post ideas?Ā How do you deal with it? (PLEASE I NEED HELP?!?!!!!!) What sort of posts do you like/want to see more of?Ā Is there any posts you’d like to see from me? (Seriously, I need help!) Do you like doing/reading tags?

  1. To be fair, I almost literally just post reviews. But I’ll keep a running list of blog post ideas (for example: a series where I highlight my bookish pet peeves) Or talk about your opinions on current events in the book community (have you seen Book Twitter blowing up over The Black Witch’s sequel being linked by its marketing department to #TheResistance?) At the end of the day, though, I will read whatever you post, so you can count on at least one view. šŸ˜‰

    • Aww, thanks! And same to you! I actually love reading your reviews! I just don’t like posting too many reviews myself…
And yeah, I’m going to try to keep a running list! Thanks for the suggestions! šŸ˜ƒ

  3. I know how you feel because Iā€™ve lost inspiration to blog for literal years before. Iā€™d constantly try to start posting, but immediately lose inspiration, and start a new blog again much later. Iā€™ve finally got one going, and have a list of ideas for it, but it has been difficult!

I think the most important thing first is to write what you WANT to write. Itā€™s always a great idea to get an idea of what the audience is interested in, but itā€™s super hard to do posts youā€™re not really interested in writing. What types of posts have you enjoyed doing in the past? What is something youā€™re really passionate about in books – your favorite characters, genres? Ask yourself what you love, and go from there.

You can also try just sitting and writing something out that you arenā€™t planning on sharing. Something youā€™re passionate about, whether it be books or not. It might spark some inspiration once you get going on it.

Most of all, though, donā€™t pressure yourself in to posting if you arenā€™t feeling it. Remember that your blog is for you, and if itā€™s causing more stress to try getting a post up then itā€™s okay to take a break.

Either way, I will be here to read your posts whenever they come! Also, youā€™ve been a blogger much longer than I have, but if you ever want to run over ideas for posts or anything, you can message me on Goodreads. I mean, Iā€™m still new to all this blogging stuff, but Iā€™d be more than happy to help if I can do anything šŸ™‚

  4. Aw, I’ve been there… It’s so frustrating when you want to do stuff, and just… CANT! Right now, I’m having the opposite problem, which is having a ton of ideas, and not getting to write them. I BELIEVE IN YOU THOUGH, and so glad you have some ideas now šŸ˜‚ Also, this got me thinking… I loved that collab post you made, do you think we could collab sometime? Maybe? If you want? šŸ˜† Warning you that I’m being terrible at writing fast and having time, proceed at your own risk šŸ˜‚

    • Oh my gosh, I would love to do a collab post with you! Do you want to send me a message (through the Contact page on the upper right hand of my blog?), or should I email you? šŸ˜€
      And aww, thanks!

  5. I am SOOOO bad at coming up with new post ideas ALL the time. I’ll sit down with the intention to write a blog post or two or three, and sometimes I DO. Sometimes I’m on a roll, but sometimes I just lose inspiration all together, which sucks SO much because like you, I feel that all the ideas are taken and I’d be saying the same thing as everyone else. But I suppose all ideas are technically taken and you’re just coming up with a new take?

  6. I sometimes have trouble coming up with posts too! I just switch tabs and start watching a new show on Netflix. It may end with me suddenly being inspired to write a post or I’ll end up reviewing the show if it’s good. I also blog hop a lot to get inspired. šŸ™‚

And during a particularly had blogging slump, I wrote about the slump itself. While I wasn’t suddenly inspired, I did feel more motivated to start writing more. xD

    • Yeah, I feel like writing about this helped a lot! I mean, I still haven’t posted, but now that’s just because I’m lazy…
