Book Review: The Raven Boys

The Raven BoysThe Raven Boys

by Maggie Stiefvater

Series: The Raven Cycle

Rating: 4 stars

I really liked this book, I was a little unsure about it, because I DON’T usually like creepy books. I think the only reason this didn’t get 5 stars is because it made it very hard for me to sleep. Then again, I did decide that reading the creepiest part of the book at midnight was a good idea… It really wasn’t. Really, really wasn’t.

I love the characters. Gansey is my favourite. He’s totally insensitive and rude sometimes. But he doesn’t mean to be, and he’s great.
And Ronan, he does some really stupid things, and at times I don’t like him very much. But over all I do like him, and he’s a really well developed character.

Also, Blue. I love her, and I love her family (Honestly I love them more than Blue but whatever). They’re wonderful, and hilarious, and I just love reading about them.

The plot was interesting, and I liked it. I wanted to know what happened, but really I read it for the characters.

I also found the magic (I’m not sure if its magic, but whatever, I can call it that if I want to) was believable. It made sense, and although it was complex, and you didn’t always understand it, it wasn’t confusing.

It was easy to read, and the writing kept me interested, even when the story was slow. So I would say that it was well written (I only ever notice writing style when I dislike it, when it’s good I don’t really notice until I think about a book after I’ve read it…).

Over all, I really liked this book, even if it did creep me out a little (Note to self, don’t read creepy books at midnight…). I think it’s well worth a read, even if you don’t like creepy books.

Have you read The Raven Boys? Did you like it? Have you ever read a creepy/gruesome book late at night even though you knew it was a bad idea?

  2. I know, I really like these books! I’ve read 2 and 3 as well now, and I’m going to start Raven King soon.
I really only found two or three scenes creepy, it just seemed really creepy to me because I read one of them at midnight, and then couldn’t sleep for an hour… 😁
