Top Six Food Related Books

Today I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday, hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is “Top Ten Yummy Foods Mentioned In Books (Does a character eat something you’d love? Or maybe the book takes place in a bakery/restaurant that makes yummy things? You could also talk about 10 of your favorite cookbooks if you don’t read foody books.)“.

I’m taking this, and I’m just going to list all the books I can think of that mention food in them, and desperately try to get to ten. And probably fail, because I can only think of two right now.

1 – Bliss*

I read this book a couple years ago, and although it’s a middle grade, and not the most amazing book, it certainly has a lot of food in it.

It takes place in a magical bakery for goodness sake. And all the baked good have magic powers.

Tbh, I barely remember what happens in this book, just the magical food. And like, nothing else.

*It took me a while to figure out what this book was called, because I literally could not remember ANY of the names. Not the name of the book, not the name of the author, not even any of the characters! It was a bit difficult…

2, 3, & 4* – The Indigo Notebook, The Ruby Notebook, & The Jade Notebook

These books have SO much food in them! It’s mentioned so frequently, and there’s so much variety. From popcorn, to papaya, to shrimp, to… guinea pig. Which sounds disgusting to me. And then there’s the mouth watering fresh bread, still warm from the oven. And this is just from the first book.

In the second book it’s ice cream, and cherries, and all sort of delicious things!

“So far we’ve had aperitifs with olives and crackers, cherry tomatoes stuffed with fresh basil and goats cheese, lemon sorbet to clean our palates, sautéed vegetables with herbes de Provence butter sauce, fish in béarnaise sauce, and lamb chops basted in rosemary and olive oil.”

I don’t even know what some of those things are, but it makes my mouth water anyways.

In the third book, it’s fish, and flan, and mole.**

All three books are full of delicious sounding food, and not so delicious sounding food… like the guinea pig. Which really sounds gross to me. Although apparently it wasn’t that bad. But ew.

*I’m putting in three numbers, because I want to feel like I have a more impressive number than I really do… Because I feel like it.

**Which I think is some sort of spicy, chocolatey, Mexican food.

5 – Faerie Tales from the White Forest

This is a highly enjoyable MG series, and the foods in it sound spectacular! They’re all made up, but they sound so delicious! They have names like, ‘Pipberry bread’ and ‘Tingermint tea’ and ‘Triple lyllium suclaide’. Don’t those names just make your mouth water?

6 – The Candy Shop War

This is also MG… I’m completely failing at thinking of YA books that mention food apparently.

Technically, this is candy, but I don’t really care. Once again, it’s magical, and it sounds delicious! Also, it gives you magical powers. Like the ability to talk to animals, or defy gravity. I didn’t actually like the book that much, but I wanted the candy.
Except for the addictive fudge, that made you dumb, and zombielike. But the rest of it I wanted. Mostly the rock candy that let’s you defy gravity really. It sounded tasty, and like it would be FUN!

Okay, that’s all I’ve got! It’s better that two at least. Although the majority of it wasn’t YA… but oh well. At least I actually remembered to do TTT this week. I’ve been meaning to do it, but I normally remember on Wednesday. Whoops.
