Hey look who forgot to write her April wrap-up?? This idiot.

And even for my May wrap-up I am,,, late. But also I’ve actually been posting this month, so I don’t mind too much.

Okay this is going to be a crazy long post already since I have two months to cover, so I’m going to get right into it!

(I read 15 books in April (+ the Vianca Augustine short story, but it’s too short to count) which I’m fairly pleased with, and while I don’t remember half of them, it was a pretty good month quality-wise)

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw – This was fun, creepy, and relatively unremarkable. It was worth a read, but quite frankly I’d forgotten it existed. – 4 stars?

On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden – HI I ALREADY SCREAMED ABOUT THIS IN MY QUEER COMIC RECS, BUT LET ME SCREAM SOME MORE IT WAS SO GOOD AND THE ART WAS SO PRETTY AND I LOVE

Seriously y’all want this graphic novel in your life – 5 stars!

As She Ascends by Jodi Meadows – I honestly just couldn’t care less about this? It has a fucking gorgeous cover and adorable dragons but other than that… *shrugs* – 3 stars

Ash and Quill by Rachel Caine – This was a reread and I literally love this series with my whole entire heart. These characters are too perfect and the world is so so good and AHJGFGDHGJHGJFH. I will say this is *probably* my least favourite in the series, but STILL. – 5 stars

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier – I went into this looking for something fun and mindless and that’s exactly what I got. Would I recommend it? Not particularly, no, but did I enjoy it? Yeah. There are much better books out there, but I wanted something fun, and I got something fun. – 3 stars

Spinning by Tillie Walden – this was a memoir which I never read, but omg it was so gorgeous and I don’t really know how to talk about memoirs, but the art was beautiful and I 100% recommend it – 5 stars

Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier – Again this was fun and mindless and not particularly high quality. It did introduce my favourite character tho, so that was fun. – 3 stars

The Devouring Grey by Christine Lynn Herman – I was a *tad* disappointed by this one, but it was still a solid read. It creeped me out, and the characters were great (especially Isaac my HEART) and I 100% NEED the sequel asap. – 4.5 stars

The Boy Who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews – HELLO THIS WAS PERFECT GO READ IT. It’s about a boy who breaks into houses because he’s sad and lonely and wants to feel like he has a home, which is the SADDEST THING EVER, and then he breaks into an occupied house by accident and gets SUCKED INTO THE BIG MESSY FAMILY and I LOVE IT. – 5 stars!

Hullmetal Girls by Emily Skrutskie – Fun, queer, space adventure, but ultimately unmemorable. I’m sad bc I love the author’s Abyss Surrounds Us duology, but this just didn’t live up to it.

I enjoyed it though. – 4 stars

Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare & Wesley Chu – MALEC BOOK MALEC BOOK MALEC BOOK! Look if you’ve been around here for ay time at all you know I’m shadowhunters trash, and Malec trash most of all, so OBVIOUSLY I loved this book.

That’s an understatement: I LOVED THIS BOOK WITH MY WHOLE ENTIRE SOUL AND MALEC WAS SO CUTE AND AJKHGFDHJKHGHFGDFHFJKGJDFDHFJGFGDFDHFFGDFHHFJFGJDF I FLAIL OMG I LEGIT SQUEALED IN PUBLIC READING THIS IT WAS JUST TOO PERFECT – 5 stars!

Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier – I literally have nothing new to say on this it was fun, the romance annoyed me, it was fun. – 3 stars

Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon – This book. THIS BOOK. One of the richest, most beautifully developed epic fantasies I’ve read in a long time, and I CAN’T stop thinking about it. I fell completely in love with it and omg you need to go read it asap

Also dragons and slowburn sapphic romance. In case you weren’t convinced. – 5 stars!

In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan – This was both so fun and so thought provoking at the same time. It gave some major Hogwarts or Tortall vibes, only queerer, and like,,, I’m here for that. – 4 stars

Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody – I was honestly shocked how much I liked this? I found Ace of Shades a wee bit juvenilely written, so I expected the same thing from her debut, but it was so? well? written? And also it had characters to die for and a murder mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat.

The romance weirded me out tho – 4 stars

(I read 19 books in May, which surprised me, bc I spend the last week of it slumping. I was expecting to have read maybe 12 books, tops, so I’m definitely pleased to see how much I read – and I loved almost all of the books I read too!)(It was a fairly reread heavy month, so I guess that makes sense…)

If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberly and Austin Siegemund-Broka – fkjhhjkljj this was just so cute and bingeable and funny and gahhhh I loved it. Like it was just such an enjoyable read, and the characters were so wonderful. Also I loooooved the amount of focus it put on the friendships ❤ – 5 stars

The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic – hi I’m literal trash for this series I love it so fucking much I already want to reread again hjghfdhjhkhgfjhkj it’s such shit but it’s the most perfect shit in existence and it owns my entire heart – 5 stars (does it deserve it? no. do I care? also no.)

The Raven King by Nora Sakavic – again this series and these characters are literally everything. like omg I can’t even deal with how much I love these books. also I think this is the book where my ship finally starts to sail and JFHDGHJHGJFDHFJ THEY ARE TOO PERFECT – 5 stars

You Know Me Well by David Levithan and Nina LaCour – This was… okay? Like it wasn’t bad, but I only really liked one of the perspectives, and it just wasn’t all that memorable? I will say though, at the moment I read it, it was exactly what I needed, so while I likely wouldn’t like it as much on a reread, nor do I love it looking back, I’m still very glad I read it. – 3.5/4 stars

The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang – this was just sort of adorable?? It wasn’t uber memorable, but it was soft and sweet and the art was pretty and it was just… fun. I definitely recommend it. – 4 stars

Ogre Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine – This was a prequel to Ella Enchanted, and since Ella Enchanted was basically my childhood, I obviously had to read this. And it was… okay. It was fun, and being back in that world made me so so happy, but overall I just… didn’t care as much. Also I knew my ship wouldn’t sail, but I was still mad when it sank. – 3 stars

Witchmark by C.L. Polk – I literally just requested this from my library on a whim, with no idea what it was about, purely because I wanted to be able to read the sequel when it comes out, and wow I’m so glad I did. This was just really freaking good. It was such a unique book? And the characters stole my heart. – 4.5 stars

The King’s Men by Nora Sakavic – I’m not entirely sure what happened here, and why it took me so long to get to this one after The Raven King, but I *think* I might have been procrastinating the pain I knew it was going to bring. Anyways this book is horrible and painful and I love it with my entire heart. – 5 stars

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire – This was SO CREEPY and I’m SO HERE FOR IT. Also like,,, majorly twisted and messed up, and flkjklkkjhh it was so good! The premise was so unique and well executed and like what the actual hell is going on in this author’s brain I’m concerned about her – 4 stars

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff – More vaguely Aurora Rising related screaming coming later (if you follow me elsewhere you probably already know what I’m talking about!), but for now let me just yell at you to read this book. It was so funny and action packed and the characters were amazing. I loved it so much. Like it wasn’t exactly high quality literature, but it was so freaking enjoyable, so I don’t really care. Also creepy. Majorly creepy. Thanks for the nightmares, book. – 4 stars

I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver – Say hello to what is hands-down the best book I read in May. This book. THIS BOOK. I mean first of all it has ownvoices! nonbinary! rep! which is pretty damn awesome and important. And that aside, it was also a well written book that covered the full range of emotions. It made me cry and also laugh and also it had the most perfect ship and also did I mention it made me cry? This book was literally perfect I have nothing but praise for it. Pls go read it. – 5 million trillion stars

To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo – This was so freaking fun! I buddy read this with my friend Luana, and at some point we just said ‘screw it we’re finishing it today’ and threw the set amount of chapters out the window because we were enjoying it so much. – 4 stars

Suffer Love by Ashley Herring Blake – This was sorta weird tbh? I usually love Ashley Herring Blake, but she’s clearly vastly improved since her debut. – 3 stars

Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann – This is an old favourite, and I just sort of picked it up and started rereading it one day when I was sad, and fljkjhkjghfgd I love it so much! – 5 stars

Toil & Trouble anthology (edited by Tess Sharpe and Jessica Spotswood) – fkjhghjjk this was soooo good! I discuss each of the stories individually in my review, but overall it was witchy and feminist and badass and I am 100% here for it. – 4 stars

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – This was a masterpiece. A literal masterpiece. What even are words?? This book was unlike anything I’ve ever read. And wow. It was so so spectacular. Everything felt so raw and real and I just don’t even know how to describe this wondrous book. –  5 stars

Descendant of the Crane by Joan He – This was really good and super well written and exciting and engaging but does I have a sequel coming?? I can’t find news of one, and it genuinely affects how I feel about this book bc that ending was either a great cliffhanger or a horribly open ending. – 3/4 stars?

The Summer of Jordi Perez by Amy Spalding – This was yet another reread, and fkjhgkj it’s just so fucking cute like legit this is the sweetest funniest most adorable book I love it so much ahhhhh – 5 stars

American Panda by Gloria Chao – This was fun and cute and just sort of unmemorable. As in, I’d already forgotten it existed, and I didn’t even read it a whole month ago. I enjoyed it while I was reading it tho – 3 stars

(Now comes the test of: Do I remember what the hell I did in April and May???)

• I had some drama classes in the nearest city. I sort of hated them tho, and was glad when they wrapped up at the end of April.
• I hung out with friends some.
• In early May my granny came out to visit for a week or so, while my parents went to a retreat. It was nice to see her (even if I mostly just read all week anyways oops).
• And at the end of May I went to a homeschooling conference, which wasn’t as fun as I’d expected, but was still nice (and also I got to go to my favourite bookstore soooo…)
• AND. THE BEST PART OF MAY. I! GOT! TO! SEE! JAY! KRISTOFF! ON! HIS! TOUR!
• It was the beeeest omg!!
• Like first off, meeting other fans irl was soooooo cool.
• and secondly I GOT TO MEET JAY FUCKING KRISTOFF
• JAY KRISTOFF
• SIGNED MY BOOKS
• AND COMPLIMENTED MY SHIRT
• AND I GOT TO SEE HIM LIVE
• AND IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING
• IT WAS MORE THAN A MONTH AGO NOW AND I CAN STILL BARELY BELIEVE IT OMG
• like it literally felt surreal even as I was meeting him my brain was refusing to process that I was STANDING IN THE SAME ROOM AS JAY KRISTOFF
• And he was literally the nicest like omg I was standing there totally starstruck and speechless and he just? made an effort to talk to me? and I actually managed to have a coherent conversation? I didn’t even embarrass myself? and that was largely bc he was SO FREAKING NICE.
• AJHGFDFHGJHGFHJ IT WAS SUCH A GOOD EXPERIENCE I’M SO HAPPY IT HAPPENED AHHHHHHHHH!
