2017 Wrap-Up! Part Two – Flailing + All the Feels!

2017 Wrap Up Part Two

2017 Wrap-Up!

Hi everyone! I’m back with part two of this survey! It’s hosted over at The Perpetual Page Turner, and is a great way to end off the year!*

It’s also very long, so I had to break it into two different posts, otherwise I probably would have ended up with a 3000+ word post, and I didn’t think anybody needed that. If you didn’t read part one, you can find it here.

Also, like I said in my previous post, these are only the books I read since August, because until then I didn’t bother to keep track of what I read… I was just too lazy apparently.

*I’m in a very exclamation-mark-ey mood right now apparently… And yes, I’m sure exclamation-mark-ey is a word.

24. Best World building/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?

I read a lot of books with great world building this year… The first things that come to mind are The Lunar Chronicles and anything in the Shadowhunters world, but those have literally been my answers for like half the questions already sooo…

To go for something I’ve talked about a lot less, I believe The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron had a pretty spectacular world. I read it a while ago, and I sort of don’t remember the plot or characters AT ALL, but the world still stands out to me quite vividly.

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?

Quite a few… Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Since You’ve Been Gone, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight… oh, and The Bane Chronicles… Probably quite a few more, but those are the ones that stand out to me the most.

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2017?

SO MANY!!! So, so many!

  • City of Heavenly Fire – I think I spent the last hundred pages of this sobbing. I’m really glad I was home alone at the time. Because I was a mess.
  • Mockingjay – I only cried a little bit over this one, but WOW, it was heartbreaking!
  • I’ll Give You the Sun – Um… I think these were happy tears at least, I don’t really know why… but it definitely made me cry a bit. I think I was feeling very emotional that day or something…
  • Clockwork Princess – I don’t think this one even needs any explanation.
  • Our Dark Duet – I was sobbing so hard over this one! That ending! I totally didn’t have to fight off tears in the middle of a crowded theatre when someone said something about a solo… Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
  • Champion – I was listening to this last night, and I was just an absolute blubbering mess! And I was crying so hard that it was sort of noisy, and I was listening to an audiobook, sooo… That worked real well.
When I was done, I came out of the room I’d hidden myself away in, and I was still sobbing, and at the same time laughing at myself for how hard I was crying, and I think my dad worried for my sanity.

Yeah, soooo… there was a lot of crying over books this year.

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?

The Violet Fox by Clare C. Marshall. I got it for christmas from my cousin, and I’d never heard of it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to the sequel. It wasn’t necessarily one of my absolute favourite books of the year, but it was really good, and everything else I read this year was either fairly popular, or not very good.

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?

Probably Our Dark Duet. Because as much as Champion made me cry a lot harder, it actually had a fairly happy ending, and Our Dark Duet… was just tragic.

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2017?

Hands down I’ll Give You the Sun. I don’t think there could ever be another book quite like it. It’s one that I’ve been mentioning a lot, but it was just really powerful, as well as being SO different.

30. Favorite review that you wrote in 2017?

I don’t know… I really haven’t loved most of my reviews… However I was fairly pleased with my review of Since You’ve Been Gone I guess…

31. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?

I… don’t write enough discussion posts… I want to start writing more of them, but I just don’t have any ideas for them. However I was quite pleased with my post about bookish things I’m thankful for

32. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2017?

Well, I started my blog. That’s a pretty great moment.
I also started reading YA, because I finally realized that 1). I was bored by middle grade. 2). Young Adult didn’t in fact mean it was for adults. And 3). My library actually has a YA section. Which I hadn’t realized because it’s hard to find tucked away in the corner, and also I’m slightly dumb.

33. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?

Actually posting… and not taking random week long unscheduled hiatuses ever couple weeks.
And for reading, being responsible and reading the books I borrowed from my cousin, instead of getting distracted and buying new books, or going to the library, or rereading.

34. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?

Apparently it’s my post complaining about homeschoolers in books… Which I wrote ages ago, back when I’d just started blogging, so it might be a bit cringy…

35. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?

I wrote this post with one of my good friends, and it’s sort of silly, but at the same time, I’m actually fairly pleased with it, and I think it’s sort of funny… It was so much fun to write, I guess I just wish a few more people had seen it. So go read it.

36. Best bookish discovery (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?

Goodreads. Technically I didn’t discover Goodreads this year, but I only got on it this year, and it’s been awesome! I’m also now addicted, and spend waaayyyy too much time on there, but… It’s still an awesome site.

37.  Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?

Um… I didn’t really set myself any goals this year, except for my Goodreads reading challenge. I also actually only set that a couple months ago, and it only really covers the last five months or so. However I did finish it. I set it at 100, and I’ve gotten to 109, sooo… I’m fairly pleased with myself.

38. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2017 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2018?

One? Oh my gosh there’s so many! The last Percy Jackson book is definitely up there, because I’ve only been reading that series for four months or something. And I’ve still only read the first four. Oops.

39. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2018 (non-debut)?

I have quite a few… I can’t narrow it down to one.

  • Gone Rogue by Marissa Meyer – I don’t normally go for graphic novels, but it was about the TLC characters, so I couldn’t NOT read it.
  • Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce – This is about a character that I love from another series, so naturally I’m excited!
  • Tess of the Road by Rachel Hartman – I loved this author’s other series Seraphina, and this is set in the same world, not to mention it just sounds super awesome!
  • Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli – Does this even need explaining?
  • Renegades #2 by Marissa Meyer – THIS DOESN’T EVEN HAVE A NAME YET, AND I DON’T KNOW HOW I’M POSSIBLY GOING TO WAIT!!!!!!!!

40. 2018 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?

A Thousand Perfect Notes by CG Drews* Aka, Cait @ Paper Fury! I’m so excited for it!

*Thank you spell correct, I was definitely trying to say dress, and not Drews!!

 41. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2018?

Oh, hahaha, Sort of already put those in… Renegades #2 and gone Rogue. And those are both by Marissa Meyer… weird.

Okay, well there was the rest of my 2017 wrap up! I hope you enjoyed (Thanks if you got to the end of this gargantuan post…). I’ll Probably do one more post to wrap up 2017 (Although it will be in 2018… good timing Iris, real good.), about my goals for next year, and then I guess I’ll get back to my normal posts… I was completely unprepared, and sort of have no clue what I’m doing right now, but I think these posts turned out okay, sooo…

How was your 2017? What’s your most anticipated release for 2018? What was your reading challenge? Did you complete it? What was your best blogging moment of 2017? How about bookish moments?

  1. Aaaahhh, I read Our Dark Duet this year and it absolutely DESTROYED me!!! I didn’t cry (because I’m literally heartless), but it was absolutely devastating. And I read Champion before 2017, but it had such a sad, bittersweet, but perfect ending. 😭 And ah yes, I’m super excited for Cait’s book too! I’m sure it’ll make us laugh and cry at the same time. 😂 Have a great January!!

    • They were both just so PAINFUL! I was crying unfortunately… I wish I didn’t cry so easily, because it makes it awfully hard to read… 😁
