My Favourite Book Quotes!

My Favourite Book Quotes

My Favourite Book Quotes!

Today I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday, hosted over at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is ‘Favorite Book Quotes’. I umm… have a LOT of favourite book quotes. I managed to narrow it down quite a bit,* but I’ve got more like… fifteen. I can’t believe I used to have trouble coming up with ten things for TTT…!

*Mostly because most quotes make no sense out of context, but still… It’s an achievement!

1 – “In new situations, all the trickiest rules are the ones nobody bothers to explain to you. (And the ones you can’t Google.)” – Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell

Umm… It’s relatable okay?!

2 – “One must always be careful of books,” said Tessa, “and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.” – Clockwork Angel, by Cassandra Clare

This is just such a beautiful line! Something about has always really spoken to me.

3 – “No matter what masks we wear, we always end up together” – The Mirror King, by Jodi Meadows

Yes, it’s romantic and sappy, but I just really like this line.

4 – “No one thinks to look for someone who’s always there” – This Savage Song, by Victoria Schwab

Victoria Schwab’s writing is just so beautiful!

5 – “What is bad for the heart is good for the art. The terrible irony of our lives as artists.” – I’ll Give You the Sun, by Jandy Nelson

I don’t really know why, but I love this line. I don’t have any reasons okay?!

6 – “Someday I must read this scholar Everyone. He seems to have written so much–all of it wrong.” – Emperor Mage, by Tamora Pierce

I really badly want to use this line, but it’s totally rude, so I probably never will… But it’s just such an awesome snarky comeback.

7 – “I do have friends. Maybe they live hundreds of miles away from me, and maybe I can only talk to them through a screen, but they’re still my friends. They don’t just hold Monstrous Sea together. They hold me together.
Max and Emmy are the reason any of this exists.” – Eliza and Her Monsters, by Francesca Zappia

This is such a sweet line, plus yes for internet friendships!

8 – “If I like a book, I devour it in one sitting, and then I forget a lot. It’s fine with me, because I read them over and over again.” – Eliza and Her Monsters, by Francesca Zappia

Yes, I have two quotes from the same book. No, I don’t care. This line maybe isn’t really beautiful or anything, but it’s one of the most relatable things I’ve ever read, so I really don’t care.

9 – “Sometimes the truth has difficulty breaching the city walls of our beliefs. A lie, dressed in the correct livery, passes through more easily.” – Seraphina, by Rachel Hartman

This is one of the most gorgeous lines I’ve ever read! And it’s so true too… Sadly.

10 – “An earthquake would have been better. At least during an earthquake, you understand why you’re shaking.” – Emmy and Oliver, by Robin Benway

This is just a beautiful line. I don’t have more explanation than that.

11 – “Without his books, his room felt like a body with it’s hearts cut out.” – Strange the Dreamer, by Laini Taylor

Relatable. Also a grim, yet weirdly pretty metaphor.

12 – “Armies aren’t very good about carrying libraries with them. I can’t imagine why. We’d fight so much less if everyone would just sit down and read” – My Lady Jane, by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, & Jodi Meadows

This was just such a silly line, while at the same time being oddly true.

13 – “Fiction is truth, even if it is not fact. If you believe in facts and forget stories, your brain will live, but your heart will die.” – Lord of Shadows, by Cassandra Clare

I like lines about books, okay?

14 – “Anybody can look at you. It’s quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see.” – Turtles All the Way Down, by John Green

This quote was literally the reason I picked this book up. I just loved it so much I had to read the book it was in! Sadly the book didn’t live up to the awesomeness that is this quote, but I still love the line.
I think partially because it makes me think of one of my friends. She sees the same world as me, and I never quite had the words to describe that until I saw this quote.

15 – “Everything feels like I’m on a stage, spotlight on me, all eyes on me, watching, judging. Like I’m one second away from total disaster. It’s invisible, it’s irrational, it’s never ending. I could be standing there, smiling and chatting like everything is totally fine, while secretly wanting to scream and cry and run away.” – Queens of Geek, by Jen Wilde

This quote. Wow. I don’t know that I’ve ever found a quote that speaks to me quite as much as this one. I almost didn’t put it in this post, because it felt too personal. This quote feels like a window into my soul. It perfectly describes how I feel every time I interact with anyone outside of my close group of family and friends, and it meant so much to have that feeling put into words.
I love this quote with all of my heart.

What are some of your favourite quotes? Do you like any of the ones on my list? What’s the most relatable quote you’ve ever read? Do you have any snarky comebacks you desperately want to use, but are too polite to ever actually say?

    • Hahaha, I had to scroll through all the quotes I’ve liked Goodreads to find most of these…
And yes, oh my goodness, I want to say that quote to someone so badly!

  1. I love all these quotes! Especially, “No one thinks to look for someone who’s always there.” For some reason it makes me really sad in a beautiful sort of way. And the Tamora Pierce one is so snarky 🙂 And all the lines about books. Books are life. The Strange the Dreamer quote? So relateable and visceral.
I have so many favorite quotes. Several of them are Markus Zusak. “One was a book thief. The other stole the sky.” (from the Book Thief). “I’d rather chase the sun than wait for it.” (I Am the Messenger). I just recently read “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman and found this quote: “You don’t pass or fail at being a person, dear.”

    • Yesss I love that line! I have exactly zero clue whether it’s in this post or not (I’m too lazy to bother checking right now lol), but if not it’s only because I hadn’t read the series yet!
