My Second Blogiversary! ft a Rather Zany Q&A

two year blogiversary

Somehow? I’ve? Blogged? For? Two? Years? Now?

I forgot it was my blogiversary until like,,, two days ago, so I didn’t have much time to put this together, but I asked around for some questions to do a Q&A, and maybe next year I’ll do something a little bit less frantic.

This Q&A is pretty fun (and zany bc my friends are weirdos), so I think you’ll enjoy it, but first let me be sappy for a minute.

I honestly can barely believe I’ve been blogging for two years. I mean okay I utterly failed at it and have gone for months without posting at times, but I still kept this up for two whole years. I’ve posted 90 times as of this post, I’ve grown so much as a person, and most importantly I’ve made some amazing friends.

And I just really want to appreciate those friends, and just this whole community. I’m not going to do specific shoutouts, because I’m terrified of forgetting someone, but seriously. I love you all so much.

The blogging community has been so so so supportive and lovely. It took me a long time to tap into it because I’m a shy awkward mess, but even in the early days you guys were always supportive. And especially in the past year or so, I’ve made some amazing wonderful friends and I could not be more grateful for that.

So to my friends: Thank you. I love y’all so much. You’re all so kind and supportive and lovely and funny and weird and wonderful. You’re always there for me when I need it, and you never fail to put a smile on my face.

You’re all such beautiful, brilliant people, and I am honoured to call you my friends.

Q&A Time!

(These first five are all from the same person and related)

Pt 1. Favorite fantasy series?

Either Shades of Magic or Six of Crows. However for the purposes of the later questions I’m going to use Harry Potter, as it’s probably my favourite fantasy series that I own. (And being able to flip through it is important haha)

Pt 2. Favorite book in that series?

  • Shades of Magic – Probably A Darker Shade of Magic?? Or else A Conjuring of Light. Not A Gathering of Shadows anyways (I still love it though)
  • Six of Crows – Six of Crows without a doubt. I love Crooked Kingdom but I don’t love the plot quite as much, and I’m still denying the existence of that ending.
  • Harry Potter – Prisoner of Azkaban hands down. I can’t even count how many times I’ve read that book… (I can’t count how many times I’ve read the whole series tbh, but I’ve read PoA the most)

Pt 3. Favorite quote in that book?

“Mr. Moony presents his compliments to Professor Snape, and begs him to keep his abnormally large nose out of other people’s business.
Mr. Prongs agrees with Mr. Moony, and would like to add that Professor Snape is an ugly git.
Mr. Padfoot would like to register his astonishment that an idiot like that ever became a professor.
Mr. Wormtail bids Professor Snape good day, and advises him to wash his hair, the slimeball.”

Pt 4. Least favorite quote in that book?

BLACK STILL AT LARGE

Sirius Black, possibly the most infamous prisoner ever to be held in Azkaban fortress, is still eluding capture, the Ministry of Magic confirmed today.

(In all reality I have no clue what my least favourite quote is)

Pt 5. How would you change the least favorite quote?

BLACK PARDONED

Sirius Black, possibly the most infamous prisoner ever to be held in Azkaban fortress, has just been found innocent and pardoned. Now everyone lives happily ever after and no one dies the end.

What are some of your favourite book quotes?

“Kell wore a very peculiar coat.
It had neither one side, which would be conventional, nor two, which would be unexpected, but several, which was, of course, impossible.
The first thing he did whenever he stepped out of one London and into another was take off the coat and turn it inside out once or twice (or even three times) until he found the side he needed. Not all of them were fashionable, but they each served a purpose. There were ones that blended in and ones that stood out, and one that served no purpose but of which he was just particularly fond.” – A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

My fave ❤

“Backstage is black and empty. Not so much a world as the darkness before the world begins.” – Echo After Echo by Amy Rose Capetta

Such a beautiful description of theatre ❤

“The great tragic love story of Percy and me is neither great nor truly a love story, and is tragic only for its single-sidedness. It is also not an epic monolith that has plagued me since boyhood, as might be expected. Rather, it is simply the tale of how two people can be important to each other their whole lives, and then, one morning, quite without meaning to, one of them wakes to find that importance has been magnified into a sudden and intense desire to put his tongue in the other’s mouth.” – The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue

This line always cracks me up XD

What are some favourite characteristics for characters to have?

  • Sass
  • Moral greyness
  • Being a total disaster
  • Will do anything for their friends/family
  • Rude but has a heart of gold (not to be mistaken for asshole bad boy though)

What book do you think is underappreciated?

THE ABYSS SURROUNDS US. Almost none of my friends have read this but it’s such a good book and I cry. It deserves so so so much more love.

What do you want to see more of in books?

DIVERSITY! INTERSECTIONAL REPRESENTATION! ACE REP AND TRANS REP!

Also on a less important note, I would personally love love love to see more homeschooled characters.

Worst kind of snack to eat while reading?

Anything crumbly or sticky. Also it’s downright impossible to eat a burger while reading (and not for lack of trying). It just requires too many hands.

Most awkward thing that’s happened while you read in public?

Shoutout to the time I decided finishing Red Scrolls of Magic in a crowded room of people was a good idea. Let’s just say it was physically impossible not to squeal a little.

I’m still not sure whether anyone noticed.

Hardest book to explain to someone who hasn’t read it?

All of them?? I feel like something really complicated with a ton of plot lines, like maybe Priory of the Orange Tree. I could barely keep track of the plot of that book, so I’d be completely stuck trying to explain it to someone else.

Also I know from experience that trying to describe the snarled web that is Shadowhunters relationships is,,, not easy.

A weird book title made of the combination of five favorite books?

Gee thanks Luana. (I kid I kid, this was a super fun question!)

Okay, five favourite books would be:

  • Simon Vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda
  • Six of Crows
  • A Darker Shade of Magic
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
  • The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue

Sooooo… Simon Vs A Darker Guide to Evelyn Hugo of Crows

What are you doing to celebrate irl?

Frantically writing and formatting this post because I forgot about it until the last minute

Ever judged a book by its cover?

Always.

I’m not even going to try and pretend otherwise.

But also I can usually tell from a cover and blurb whether I’m going to like a book, and I’m right 99% of the time, so really can you blame me??

Also pretty covers are pretty.

If your life was a book, which genre would you want it to be?

I mean contemporary, otherwise I would die.

(Also pls go check out this hilarious (and relatable) post from Aline @ Fully Booked about how she would die if she was in a fantasy book.) (Not really related to my blogiversary, but it was an awesome post and this question made me think of it so go show her some love!)

How tall are you in books?

I considered trying to make a really tall stack and take a photo, but I’m running short on time and also that’d require taking out too many books and I *just* reorganized my bookshelf. So instead I measured a few things and did some math. (I used a calculator so the chances of it being right are like 50%-50%

  • I am 42.666666666666667 paperback Illuminaes
  • And I’m 56.888888888888889 hardcover I Wish You All the Best’s (this feels suspiciously low…)
  • Aaaaand I’m 2415.3- nope that can’t be right, let’s try that again. I am… 241.509433962264151 I Was Born For This’s???

Well this probably gives you zero idea about my height, it does give you a very good look into my (nonexistent) math abilities.

Which book made you feel like the author was spying on you for inspiration?

Okay so I just finished Echo After Echo and I swear that book:

  • Had literally everything I could ever want in a book
  • Had the actual most relatable characters ever
  • Had the best depiction of theatre I have ever read (minus ya know, the murder)

Bookdragon vs Bookworm – who wins?

I’m sorry but bookdragon, obviously. Dragons vs worms. Is it really even a question.

If a book title could give you super powers, what would your current read bestow onto you?

I’m not actually currently (actively) reading anything, but I know my next read is going to be The Fever King soooo… I guess that would maybe give me power over fevers? Like I could give them to people I dislike, but also make them go away from the people I do like?

Or maybe I’d only have the power to control the fevers of kings???

Who is your favorite (fictional) queer couple?

ONLY ONE??? So cruel. But if I really have to, I’d probably say Simon and Blue, bc that book is very possibly my favourite book of all time, and Simon and Blue deserve all the love.

Who’s your favourite villain of all time?

I’m not sure this reeeaally counts, but Victor Vale/Marcella Riggins/all the characters in that series. And I mean it’s literally called Villains soooo… it *has* to count 😊

How long have you been blogging? When’s your blogiversary? Are you any better at math than I am? Do you cover judge??

  1. ECHO AFTER ECHO!!! 🙂 I know I hit you up about this on Goodread but yaaaaaas so goooooooooood. I am SO glad it spoke to you – now lets team up and get more people to read it because daaaang it’s a lost treasure.
Your quote correction about Sirius definitely made me chuckle. That sounds like a good ending. 😉
BTW I am fully appreciating your attempt to eat a burger while reading. I am 100% incapable of eating burgers without making a mess of EVERYTHING and I appreciate your confidence in trying. 😛
    Happy second blogiversary!!!

    • YASSSS! It was so so so good ahhhhh! I’m so glad you yelled about it in your review because that is 100% why I wanted to read it and I’m sooooooo happy I did! And honestly though, I just want everyone to read this book. I certainly have no plans to shut about it anytime soon ;P
Hehehe yeah the burger while reading is never a good idea, but every time I think maybe I can do it, and every time the book gets shoved aside so quickly so as not to wreck it 🙈😂
      Thank you!

  2. As one of your weirdo friends I have to say, this is awesome 😂 HAVE ALL THE ICE CREAM, I’M SO HAPPY YOU STUCK AROUND FOR TWO YEARS AND I MET YOU!! Now, I guess I owe you my awkward reading in public stuff… 1) guy interrupting my book to say I look romantic while reading, and me staring at him like “what” 2) reading during some friends dance rehearsal, where they had the music super loud, and I somehow blocked all the noise so much, I looked up from the book and the music was off and everyone was gone 😅 and then I thought about hiding behind the door or under a desk. Because we were playing an elimination game thingy and I knew they’d set me up. And then I decided it was pointless, and got taken out of the game a couple minutes later. The… End. 😂
